UnEarthed

I'm not sure if I've mentioned yet, but I kind of have a thing about zombies (and loving them). It began partially with my friends and I playing "Zombie" in the middle of the field during free time in P.E. a few months ago, then became the theme for my birthday party this year (it was a zombie tea party), and is now the theme of the book my friend Michelle and I are writing. As of this moment, we have about 40 pages, and it's still growing. Like the title of this post, the book is called UnEarthed, get it? Cause it's about zombies and all... Ha. But whether you happen to be curious about what it's about (other than zombies), or just stumbling upon the blog of a young, zombie obsessed girl,  I'll tell you the basics of the plot.

It's in some ways like "Twilight" (we are teenage girls) meets "Romeo and Juliette" meets "Dash and Lily's Book of Dares" (if you haven't read Dash & Lily, you should).  Except with zombies. So, Boo, a sullen teenage girl, misunderstood by her parents, moves to Salem, meeting Lorcan, a zombie who's angst levels rival even her own. She is brought into a community of zombies, who are the only friends she's ever had, their ranks including Raven, the "former" con artist who's been Lorcan's best friend, and is always ready to throw in a sarcastic comment, and keep things from getting too "sappy". All the while, the dark, mysterious history of the zombies past looms over them, while they run from the zombie cops, and try to go unnoticed in a small suspicious town. Yes. We do realize how cheesy and cliche basically all of this sounds, but we're still having fun creating all of these different characters and their back stories, and I promise, so far it's a lot less cheesy than the description...
Today, boredom compelled me to do better character designs, because I always kind of get a better feel for a character when I can sketch them out and see how they look and dress. Here's a few of our main characters:

Boo,

Lorcan, & Raven

We hope to have filled your head with zombie day dreams and the beginning of a glitterific day!

Spazzy Sparrows

Blouse- #Forever21
Shorts- #Forever21
Tights- #Anthropology
Shoes- Not sure (sole says Punk Rose)
Scarf- Vintage?

Ever since I acquired an array of colorful gel pens and added them to a few different sharpies, I keep doodling all over my arms and legs. They look like a bunch of tattoos, so i offered to give my cousin a tattoo of what ever he wanted on his arm. It started with a "majestic" bunch of roses like the one on my knee, and ended up with a slightly spazzy (I drew it in a moving car) sparrow, a rosary, and a banner spelling "YOLO". Yes, it was quite a magnificent piece of art. He said that it came off really quickly, but luckily I got a picture of it first.
I myself have four different flowers and a humming bird on one knee, a butterfly on the other, and a bee hive next to a flee circus on my left arm. I hope you have a glitterific day, filled with spazzy sparrows, and majestic roses!

Something to inspire you...

I haven't posted anything in a few days, but that's mainly due to my lack of interesting activities of late (other than buying pop tarts from target). I'm currently working on a DIY which I hope to share within the next few days, but in the meantime, here's a music video that I hope inspires you:
Bright Eyes, At the Bottom of Everything
I just think it's a really catchy song, and wacky, amazing video.
Also, if you need just a little extra boost of awesome, please enjoy the image below:

It's a dancing circus bear that happens to enjoy balancing his little squirrel comrade on his nose. You can print out a free template and have your very own bear in the paper/color of your choice here, on the blog Scherenschnitte (I hope I spelled that right)!
I hope you have an inspired, glitterific day!

Polka Dots

As I would hope everyone does, I just love polka dots. I don't know what it is, but I wish I could where them everyday (which I do as often as possible). In the words of Zooey Deschanel, "I rock a lot of polka dots." So, in this outfit, I wore my new polka dot skirt with one of my favorite blouses, that just happens to have polka dots. I got the skirt a few days ago from Forever 21, but had passed it by at first glance, thinking that it would be like many of the skirts there are, too short and thin enough that even a slight breeze picks it up. But, this one is the perfect length even pulled up to have a high waist. Also, it's fully lined and a nice fabric that is perfect for twirling (which is a must for my skirts), but stays where it's supposed to. I'm already plotting to snatch up all of the different colors it comes in!
Blouse- #Forever21
Suspenders- #h&m (men's area)
Skirt- #Forever21
Tights- #Forever21
Shoes- #Mod Cloth
I liked this outfit too much to just sit around my house, so my friend Timna and I went on a "Summer Adventure," and walked around downtown, ending up at the beach. I insisted that while we were in the area, we absolutely had to go on the carousel. Yes, we have a carousel next to our beach. Unfortunately (or fortunately, I'm not sure), not very many people ever go there, so we had the whole thing to ourselves! I love riding carousels and imagining that I'm riding a unicorn into a magical land, or I'm in the 20's, riding a carousel like in "Midnight in Paris," or something. But, I only got to have my magical carousel ride twice because Timna got bored that it wasn't faster or something and made me leave... But it was still fun!

I hope you feel inspired to ride on the next carousel you see, have lot's of magical adventures, and have a glitterific time doing it!

Pink Pancakes

As previously mentioned, I would eat pancakes for every meal if I could. Especially if they were pink. So, I had to share the recipe I use when making pink pancakes! It's from the Better Homes and Gardens Cook Book, but I add my own pink dye. I made an animation with the ingredients and instructions, but I accidentally made it take a really long time between the pictures, and I had to make two because I had a lot of pictures but for some reason it won't let me do that... But, still. Pink Pancakes. So the last few steps are just combing the two mixtures together, adding a dash of magic (and pink/red dye), and cooking them.
I made a few different kinds such as:
Frootloops

Chocolate Chips

And Sprinkles

Don't they look delicious and magical?
Also, while I was in the mind set of Pink Pancakes, I thought "Why not make a Pink Pancakes outfit?" So, I decided that the first thing that comes to mind when I think of pancakes is a lumberjack, and because they're pink, I could be a Lady Lumberjack. So, here's my "Lady Lumberjack" inspired outfit:

Hat- Thrifted
Shirt- My mom's closet (Probably Old Navy)
Lady Tie- Made from a black ribbon
Belt- #Forever21
Skirt- #American Apparel
Tights- #Anthropology
Shoes- Doc Martins
I hope you feel inspired to make some pink pancakes of your own, and that they make you day glitterific!

Striped Nails

Left to Right: Lime Scented Polish (#Forever21), Teal (F21), Turquoise (F21),  Blueberry (F21), Bright Blue (Claire's), Passion Flower (Pura Vida Botanicals), Pink (F21), Red (F21)

Ok, so who doesn't love some colorful stripes? They're just so fun, whether they're in rainbow socks or bright nail polish! So, Last night, I got out a rainbow of nail polish, and painted stripes all over my nails. I used 8 different colors, and a few address labels to do it. First, I cut the address labels into strips about the width and length of my nails, and laid one down on my first nail with the bottom about a third of the way up. Then, I painted it with my first color. Once that had dried a little bit, I put a different label about two thirds of the way up, and carefully painted starting at the edge of the first color, and filling to the label, like this:
I folded the label a little bit for that part though, so that it would stay on better, and cover the nail more. After that, I just painted the tips a third color.
I tried to use a different color combination on each finger, but there were a few that I was favoring, like lime, pink, and blue/turquoise. My right hand didn't turn out as well as the let, but over all, I liked how they turned out!
I hope you have a glitterific day!

Turquoise Hair & A Scalloped Collar

People ask me a lot how I decided to dye my hair certain colors, and I rarely have a good answer to that. Sometimes, I'll see someone's hair and think "Oh, wow! That's a really pretty color! I should try that the next time I do my hair!", but other times, I might just wake up one morning and go "I think I'll dye my hair blue today." The latter happened one day last summer. At the time, though, I'd only been dying my hair for a month or two, and wasn't allowed to do anything but red or a little bit pinkish yet. So, I was only able to do blue pieces underneath bleached blond hair as a compromise, although it only lasted a week. But, yesterday, my year-long waiting payed off, because I finally got my dream of "Mermaid-blue" hair! Isn't it pretty? I used a mix of Manic-Panic Atomic Turquoise, Ion Color Brilliance Brights Aqua, and Beyond the Zone Huckleberry Blue
And, to top it all off, I received an amazing belated birthday present in the form of this beautiful scalloped collar from romwe!
