Dress: Forever21, Boots: Painted docs

Today I felt like a space alien. After three or four outfit changes that did't feel right, I settled on this turquoise retro-style dress with two pairs of blue-green fishnets, turquoise socks and my now-white doc martins. I've gotten into kind of a shoe painting phase but there's something kind of cool and spacey about white boots, especially when I added neon green laces and an alien sticker along with a couple of silver stars.

For my pictures I hung up a white sheet because I've never tried it and I wanted to see how it'd work. It was kind of weird but I might try it again. I also tried to take a few pictures with the moon because I felt spacey but it's very difficult to do those by yourself so I settled for an out of focus shot with my arms kind of in the frame.

To go with my alien #aesthetic I put my hair in space buns and added hoards of green and pink glitter. I also used lots of blue and green in my makeup, including my lipstick.

All day I had Alien Love Song by the Sulk Scouts stuck in my head, which you should check out because they're rad. I saw them at Burger A Go Go and they were super fun. Plus, their album is free on Bandcamp.

Girl Gang A Go Go

This is what I wore the first school day after going to Burger A Go Go on the 5th. Burger A Go Go was so incredibly rad and I'm so glad I got to go because it was amazing. It made me really happy to see an entire festival of really cool women making music and everything was just good.

My friend and I wore matching outfits which was fun because I wore my bear dress and he wore bear overall shorts that I made for him the night before. We both wore white t-shirts and black knee socks to complete our outfits.

I got this Girl Gang t-shirt at Kate Nash's merch table afterwards, along with her zine which is also rad. They only had extra larges left but I like big t-shirts, especially when they're long enough to conceivably be worn as dresses. I wore this one with glittery star-printed tights and my black sneakers, with a black skeleton ribbon in my hair.

Orange Hair, Green Hair, Moz and E

So my hair was very briefly orange before I let my friends attack my hair again with bleach and turned it white again. I also then made the likely poor decision to hand a pair of scissors each to two of my friends and let them cut my hair. They each stood on one side and ended up forgetting to check the other side at any point, and then it was mostly all the length of my bangs. It's sort of terribly uneven but I've just kind of left it for the past three months (except for changing the color to hot pink/purple to green then lavender and now black) and just started cutting my bangs again a couple weeks ago.
In May I got to go see Morrissey (who is my favorite human) in concert with a bunch of my friends and it was incredibly wonderful. When we were going in, a photographer from LA Weekly took a picture of us and it's in a slideshow of the show.

Then, my parents took my friend Sophie and I down a week or two ago to see the EELS and the same guy took our picture again, and it is once more in a slideshow.

So, now we are just about up-to-date on my hair and outfits since November or so.

Lorna Doom Inspired Hair

So for a while it seemed like my friends and I were having viewings of "What We Do Is Secret" almost every weekend, and have all written "Here lies Darby Crash" and "My life, my leather, my love goes to Bosco" on hundreds of places around school (desks, walls, theaters) because of the Germs. In January my mom cut my hair like Lorna Doom for me, because Lorna is the coolest, and bleached it out like hers (which was quite painful to get it as close to white as I did). I also went around in ripped up tights and knee socks or my black Dickies and button-ups for a while and my bass is named "Andy Doom" for Andy Rourke and Lorna Doom.
But seriously, go watch the movie because it's really good and go look at pictures of Lorna Doom because she wears really cool clothes.

 On this day I had put tons of hairspray and various things in my hair so that it stuck out a lot and it was kind of great and my dad told me that I loved like Exene and it was a wonderful complement, especially because about a month later my parents took my friend and I to see X in concert in Ventura which was awesome.

The Catcher in the Rye

This was a photo shoot that I did for an English project a few months ago. It was for a unit on Catcher in the Rye (which I really liked) where we had to express a theme from the novel using some sort of creative thing with visuals or audio or something. I chose the theme of "loss of innocence" and immediately thought of The Virgin Suicides and Ginger Snaps. I borrowed two of my friends who are sisters and dressed them up in girly pastels and little kid jewelry.
I shot the photos through a little hole in a piece of paper which I had crayoned shades of pink. I started playing with this a few months ago and it's really fun. I love how the pictures come out. I then printed out the pictures and made collages around them. They look better in person but my scanner isn't very good and my teacher currently has the originals.
I came up with a basic plot of two sisters who are super close, with the older one being very protective of the youngers innocence, yet being a "bad" influence, like Holden. I had someone endangering her innocence, and the older sister "taking care of it," but really just ruining any innocence she had left.

Style Inspiration: Abby Normal

This outfit was inspired by Abby Normal, of the book "Bite Me: A Love Story," by Christopher Moore. The book is the third in his series "Bloodsucking Fiends," of which I read the first two only recently. Abby Normal is one of the best characters ever, though. She's super bad ass and fights vampires while wearing fabulous outfits and tells people "You rock my stripy socks," and also is my spirit animal.
'Kayso, if you haven't read the series before, it's about Jody, who becomes a vampire in the first book, and C. Thomas Flood whom she meets then and turns into a vampire in the second. In that book, they meet Abby, who they hire to assist them in buying apartments and things since they can't go out during the day. The last book, which I read first, is mainly from her point of view, as San Fransisco (the setting of the series) is being taken over by vampire cats.
There are all of these awesome characters though, like Jared, her best friend who was with her when she met Flood and Jody while buying allergenic eyeliner at the drug store. He borrows her thigh-high red boots and then argues with another character about whether it was Buddah or Morrissey who first said "Life is pain." So basically, he's amazing.
Among her described outfits are green plastic skirts, bright pink fishnets and combat boots, a red wedding dress (that, when worn with combat boots, is very difficult to run in), and multiple colors of hair that include lavender pigtails, and magenta with violet tips.
For my outfit, I wore a bright blue tank top, a pink plaid skirt, purple striped tights, and pink docs. I also wore a leather jacket, because one of their weapons to fight the vampire cats are leather jackets that have really bright lights embedded into them (hence the enhanced light in my pictures). I also wore lavender lipstick because one of her friends in the book does.

Blanket Fort

Outfit Details- Blouse and Slip/Crinoline: Vintage, Socks: Payless, Crown: DIY

A week ago, I decided that I wanted to make a blanket fort. So I made one, and spent most of the past week in it, reading and listening to music. I finally got a chance to take pictures in it, and since this is the last day of summer, I did a quick photo shoot. I wore a vintage Dior blouse over an old slip attached to a crinoline. I also wore sheer grey knee-highs, and a dried flower crown.
My fort is made up of two sheets strung over my fold-out couch, with Halloween lights hung inside, and filled with pillows, blankets, stuffed animals, books, my iHome, and a nerf gun to fend off any attackers, and most often a cat.

Little-Old-Lady-Punk

This is what I wore today to meet some friends for lunch and walk to a park. I kind of loved this outfit. The dress and the hat/headpiece together were kind of like a little old lady, which is always awesome, but I pared them with a punk t-shirt and my docs. I wore the dress buttoned only with one button over my Mormons shirt and my black cigarette-legged pants, with the sleeves of my shirt rolled over the sleeves of the dress, and a black belt. I carried my brown bear-bag from K-mart.

Baby Spice Meets Kate Nash

Ok, so this (again) is from a while ago (I think May), but I wore it the week after I went to a Kate Nash concert. I know I'm more than two months late on my recap of it, but it was so amazing. She's essentially my favorite person ever because she's super bad ass and she's a feminist, and she makes amazing music, and she just seems like the raddest person ever. So, that was pretty much my favorite day ever.
She wore kind of maroon lipstick, thick Egyptian-esque eyeliner, and messy pigtails, and I'm pretty sure that every girl there went home and wore the same thing the next day, as did I. I got this dress down in L.A. before the concert, and couldn't wait to wear it. It kind of reminded me of Baby Spice, especially with the pigtails, but the outfit was also inspired by Kate Nash, hence the title.
The concert was also amazing because everyone there just seemed really cool. It felt like we were all in a girl gang for the night, and that was so cool. The crowd was pretty diverse, but a lot of it was made up by teenaged girls dressed similarly to me: most of us were in retro-style skirts and dresses with fishnets or other tights, either combat-boots or creepers, and thick black (often glittery) eyeliner and red lipstick.
I wore the green dress from "The Riot Grrrl Jacket" post, with black fishnets and my docs, and black cat-ears.

It was so awesome because after she signed my vinyl, I got to hug her and my mom took a picture of us for me, and it pretty much made my life because she said that she loved my dress and asked where I got it and now it's my favorite dress because it's "Kate Nash Approved". Also, I got to use a double meaning in my title.
