Something Wicked This Way Comes...

Yesterday I forgot to take pictures because I was at school until dinner time taking measurements for costumes, so I didn't take these until almost midnight. That's why they're kind of terrible, and have bad lighting, but I'm really good at measuring inseams now! Also, I was super tired, so I didn't check to make sure I got a good picture or anything before I went to bed. They kind of work with the theme and everything, though.
I realized that there aren't really any super goth kids at my school. Like, there are kids who wear black and one girl in my French class wears these really cool monster horns sometimes with different colored wigs, and there are definitely some "emo" kids, but as far as I've seen, there aren't any all out, white makeup faced, black lipped goths. That just seemed sad. I mean, how will we ever reach stereotypical high school dynamic, now? So, obviously, I had to take this heinous matter into my own hands, and went goth. Well, at least for a day.
Also, I was just bored. Both bored yesterday morning, and just bored with my clothes/outfits. I know my clothes are anything but boring, but you know how sometimes it just feels like you've been wearing close to the same sort of thing for a while, and it just gets boring? I mean, I still love my clothes, and don't intend to change the way I dress anytime soon, but I just wanted to do something different. So, I did what bored teenagers have been doing for decades when wanting something different, and pulled out the white stage makeup and black lipstick.
I straitened my already almost stick-straight hair (although it started to wave a little by the end of the day), mixed white (technically clown) makeup with just a little regular foundation, so as not to look to much like a clown (I feel like there's irony somewhere in there), and used black eye-liner liberally. I wore a long-sleeved black T-shirt with a floor-length black skirt. I like this skirt because it's got a really thin overlay that clings to the rest of it, but floats out a little bit at the bottom, and reminds me of smoke or a shadow or something. I wore black Mary-Janes, too, but I took them off before I took my pictures, and didn't feel like wearing shoes.
Of course, I also had to carry around my little book of Edgar Allen Poe stories, and listen to almost nothing but The Smiths all day, although I kind of do both of those everyday...

Poodle Skirts & Pigtails

We got these balloons to use in the photo shoot yesterday, but it seemed like a waste to have these awesome balloons just be in the background of a couple of pictures, so I figured I'd use them in my pictures today. Plus, I've been dying to do a picture like this ever since I saw it on the amazing Strawberry Koi. Balloons are just so fun and whimsical looking, though! Today it was super dark and rainy (which I loved), but the balloons made it look colorful and amazing.
I wore my old poodle skirt, which I made in 5th grade for a 50's Day at school. I wore it over a black petticoat, with the T-shirt I got at an Ingrid Michaelson concert last year. I did my hair in victory rolls and pigtails, the victory rolls being done after seeing this video tutorial (by the extraordinary Twila Jean) over the summer. I've done them a few times since, and I always love how they turn out. They're super easy, but they always look really cool and semi-complex.

Hello! So, this is a photo shoot I did today with a bunch of my friends, set to look sort of like screen-shots of an imaginary movie, which we titled "Tales of the Outcasts." It's kind of late for Valentine's Day, but I had planned to have had this done before then. 

*All of the clothes are mine, except for Michelle's army-style jacket, her boots, and Ember's red converse. 

*I did all of the hair, except for Rachel's amazing turquoise hair, which she did herself, along with her's and Shayna's makeup. Other than that, I did all of the hair and makeup. 

*Props were via Events by Milk & Honey Farm.

*The shoot was in part inspired by "Home Is Just a Word," Petra's amazing shoot for Rookie.

Happy (belated) Valentine's Day!

Happy Belated Valentine's Day! Sorry, I was planning to post yesterday, because I really loved my outfit, but right after school, my friend, Natalie, and I went to see Beautiful Creatures, and I didn't get home until pretty late, and then we had dinner, and then I was so tired I fell asleep wearing my full outfit, socks, tights, tutu, pins and all. I took off my shoes, but that was it. I also forgot to remove any of my makeup, which included bright red lipstick, a heart drawn on my cheek in red stage makeup and eyeliner, pink glitter, and bright pink eyeshadow. I was really tired.
So, since I didn't take any pictures last night but I really loved my outfit, I decided to draw it out, kind of like what Kate Gabrielle (of Scathingly Brilliant) did a few weeks ago. Of course, I drew myself in poses that I would most likely have been in for my pictures. I've realized (and been told by my parents) that I'm kind of monotonous in my posing sometimes. I'm also rarely looking straight at the camera. I don't really know what's up with that, but I've actually made an effort to look at the camera lately! I promise!

As I mentioned, I saw Beautiful Creatures yesterday!!! It was really exciting to see one of my favorite books ever turned into a movie, but also really sad, because I realized that just about everything that I was terrified they would change or not put in, they changed or didn't put in. If you have read the book and plan to see the movie, but want to stay in that optimistic state of mind that I was in before yesterday, then please, by all means do. But be prepared for devastation at the lack of at least all of my favorite parts. Don't worry, I won't give any spoilers, but I just need to rant. Really badly. They did not ever have Lena's eyes green, and dark casters' eyes only turned gold for a teensy bit of the time. That was stupid. Ethan and Lena had accents!!! That just kind of automatically ruined pretty much everything for me. They didn't give Lena her crescent moon shaped birthmark!! Macon, rather than looking like Atticus Finch, was super creepy and kind of looked like a pimp. That was stupid. Ethan found the locket within, like, the first minute of the movie, without Lena! Also, they really did just make Ethan super unlikable. First off, he was just a complete idiot. They made it seem like he couldn't read because when he did her held the book right up to his face and read aloud really slowly, and instead of saying little witty things to cheer her up, he'd just make this creepy smiley face and start laughing at himself. Also, not like the actor who played him was too completely hideous or anything, but he was not Ethan. Ok? Ethan is supposed to be super tall and lanky and have hair that's growing over his eyes. The actor was kind of stalky and had short hair and was just weird. Plus: Ridley's hair!! It was going to be blond and pink and amazing!!
Most of all, the two things that I seriously started freaking out and hitting Natalie in the arm about. 1. They didn't have Marian the librarian!! She was so cool!! 2. They didn't have the Sharpie on Lena's walls!!! I seriously almost cried when they didn't have that. It was my favorite thing, along with her necklace (which they also only barely had). Instead, the walls were almost black, and she did magic so that the words showed up in light for, like, two seconds, then dissapeared. It was stupid.
Still, if you read the books and loved them as much as I do, then I would totally suggest going and seeing the movie! Maybe it's just how you pictured everything, and I'm just going off of how I pictured everything, but if not, then at least you have a really good ranting topic for the next few weeks! If you haven't read the books, then I would first and foremost suggest that you read the books!!! They're super good! But, I'd also suggest seeing the movie, because it was a pretty good movie once you got over everything they changed that would have made it SO much better if left in! But, they did have one line that I approved of them adding, which was something like "That girl, with her seductive quirkiness..." That was pretty awesome.
Sorry, end of rant.
On another note, but speaking of books, my friend, Michelle, and I are still writing our zombie-teen-romance novel, UnEarthed, which has currently almost 150 pages! We have a Pinterest page with pretty much everything that reminds us of our book, or that has to do with it. Today, I made a playlist on 8tracks that is pretty much the soundtrack of our imaginary movie-adaptation of it. In case anyone was wondering what this book is actually about, the current description is:
Boo, a misunderstood, borderline goth teen, moves to Salem, Ma, in the midst of a "Zombie Apocalypse." Rather than the boring life she expected to find, she finds the first friend she's ever had, and maybe some romance, in Lorcan, an agsty teenaged zombie who died an 80's punk. He introduces her to world of friendship, adventure, and a dark mystery. Along with fellow members of the undead, Raven, a sarcastic pick-pocket, and Scooter, a former Irish pirate, they form a death-defying friendship.
I promise, it's much better than it sounds.

Happy Galentine's Day!!

Happy Galentine's Day, all of you wonderful people!! What's Galentine's Day? Why, it's only the best day of the year, thanks to Leslie Knope! On Parks and Rec, Leslie created Galentine's day, which, in her words, is "Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrate ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair minus the angst. Plus frittatas."
Here's some of my favorite Galentine's day cards that I've seen:

So, we needed to celebrate this wonderful holiday. My two P.E. friends and I, who have formed our own small Girl-Gang, decided to dress like members of a 60's Girl-Gang, wearing leather jackets and girl-power pins, courtesy of me and my hot glue gun. See?

I used a tutorial from Rookie. I think they turned out cool, and we wore them around all day.
I did my makeup inspired by this picture.

I also baked girl-power sugar cookies, and handed them out to my lady friends at lunch. I forgot to take pictures with my camera this morning, but I took a picture with my phone last night.

I cut out the regular circles of dough, then just put extra pieces at the bottoms to make the little cross-thing. Then, I used pink icing to do the outline, and put sparkly red sprinkles on them. They were delicious.
Last night, I made my T-shirt, and I kind of love it. I think I mentioned before about how lately I keep doodling Riot Grrrls with stars for eyes, but I kept doodling this one in particular. I don't know, I just liked how she looked in my mind.

 I also wanted to steal her T-shirt, even if she and the shirt only existed in my mind and on my paper. So, the obvious solution was just to make myself the shirt, as it didn't seem to exist. Here's how I made it (it's very very similar to my last post):
Materials:
-A plain T-shirt (I got a pack of 6 white, mens' undershirts at Kmart for 15 dollars. I got smalls, and I'm usually a medium or sometimes a large in womens' shirts, so you can kind of figure out what size you need to get.)
-Fabric paint (I used black)
-A paint brush
-Cardboard (I used an old granola bar box)
-Scissors
-A pen-pencil-Sharpie
-A geometry compass (not totally necessary)
-A ruler (again, you don't really need it)

I figured out about where I wanted the writing to be, and how big. Then, I used my compass to make a circle, about 6.5 inches in diameter, with a bigger one around it, measuring about 7.5 inches. These can each be as big or small as you want, as long as you can fit words into them, and they would fit on your shirt.

I used scissors to cut out the bigger circle, and started to cut out triangles, who's points extended to hit just at, or a little bit past the smaller circle. I had these go all around the circle.

I placed the circle where I wanted it to be, which was accidentally a little bit off-center. Make sure that if you do this, you line it up to that the circle in centered. Then, I used a black Sharpie to trace the shape onto my shirt. It was around this step that I realized my cardboard shape had been almost completely unnecessary. I think it still worked really well, and now I have a nice shape so that I can easily do this project again, but I could totaly just have drawn the shape onto the shirt. Either way, you should at this point have some sort of a pointy circle/sun type of shape outlined on your shirt.

I used the cardboard shape to figure out the center of the circle, and wrote "not" there, then figured out the placement of the other words. Once I had that, I sketched them lightly on the shirt with pencil and highlighter. Then, I started to fill in the shape with black paint. Be careful to start painting on the left if you're right-handed, or the right if you're left-handed, so that you don't smear the paint.

Then, I waited about an hour for it to dry (although I should have waited longer), and threw it i the wash.

And, voila! A Riot Grrrl power T-shirt!
