Hello all, and happy New Year! Today, I dragged my friends, Ember, Alicia, and Jenny over, and dressed them up in "Chloe Clothes". We then had a wonderful photo shoot, which I titled "Welcome to Dreamland". It's supposed to be kind of where these dream-like things are happening, but they're all sort of twisted. For instance, you'd be looking in the mirror, but it would be someone else looking back at you, or you would be at this pastel tea party, but nobody's smiling. It gave me a chance to play around with my new camera & tripod that I got for Christmas! It was really fun dressing them! I wanted them to be in super girly, pastel outfits for the tea party part, but with just pancake makeup, semi-resembling the girls of Strawberry Switchblade. I gave each of them a pastel color, and used that throughout their outfits and makeup. Their outfits were sort of inspired by the Meadham Kirchhoff’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection.
For the nightclothes part, I wanted it to be sort of like she was just entering Dreamland. I wanted Ember to sort of be the one dreaming, and, in the mirror pictures, I had Jenny as sort of her dream-alter-ego. It was fun doing that shoot, because we used this cool dressing table that's missing the mirror, and set it up so that Ember and Jenny were mirroring each other. I dressed Ember in a white slip & a light blue robe, and kept her makeup pretty light. Since she was supposed to look innocent, I gave her a sort of Twiggy eye. For Jenny and Alicia, I just did super dark black makeup on their eyes, and a very dark red lipstick.
I hope you all have a glitterific New Year!
Love,
Chloe

Adventures in the Santa Barbara Graveyard!

Outfit Details:
Dress- #forever21
Cardigan- Old Navy
Belt- From the same dress
Socks- Tim Burton Art Exhibit
Shoes- (knock off) Doc Martins
Glasses- Urban Outfiters
Today, my dad took me to the Santa Barbara Graveyard as a weekend outing. We visited the Ballard Cemetery on a day trip up to San Ynez a little while ago, and I thought it was super rad. It was really cool and old, and I've always wanted to go to a graveyard that actually had the cool old headstones and things. There's a graveyard in town, but it's pretty small and it doesn't have many interesting stones. The Ballard one is still my favorite that I've seen, but the Santa Barbara one was still pretty cool.
We saw a lot of interesting headstones and quite a few crypts, including a small pyramid. We also saw a fox, so that was cool. I don't think you're actually supposed to take pictures there, and my dad told me about being caught by the caretaker when he was my age, trying to take pictures with his band.
For my outfit, I kind of had to be at least partially inspired by Wednesday Adams. I wore my black dress with a pattern of white birds, with a white peter pan collar, and my black & white striped stockings, which I bought at the Tim Burton art exhibit last year. I also wore my teal, cat-eye sunglasses.
I hope you're all having a glitterific day!

Chloe

My Long Awaited Favorite Pants

Outfit Details:
Shirt- Old Navy
Pants- #forever21
Shoes- Shoebuy.com
This is, as far as I know, the second blog post I've done wearing pants. I really don't wear them very often, unless I'm working on something like painting, or helping with farm-y things. Sometimes, I will wear jeans in some sort of 50's style outfit, or just because I woke up late and didn't have an outfit picked out. I usually just prefer to wear dresses. The one type of pants I've been dreaming of, though, is a pair of cigarette pants. They always look so cool and retro, and even though they're pants, they always look pretty and feminine. I've seen them on websites like Pin Up Girl Clothing, but they're always, like, $80 or something. May I remind you, I am a 14 year old girl. There are very few jobs that I can get, so I rely on my allowance for clothing money. My parents are always awesome about funding my wardrobe, and I do work at events with my mom every once in a while, but I by no means am going to be paying $80 dollars for a pair of pants (no matter how pretty said pants may be). So, I was very excited to find a pair of cigarette-like pants at Forever 21 the other day! I couldn't really tell from the picture, but I'm pretty sure these are the right ones on the website.
They may not be super high-wasted, but they're high enough that they're comfortable. I just like high-wasted shorts, skirts, and pants more than low-wasted ones. I don't know, I always just think they're more comfortable like that. I don't like when they're so low you keep feeling like you need to pull them up, but you can't anymore. It just bugs me. They (my new pants) come to my ankles, but I just rolled them up a few times because it seems like cigarette leg pants are usually at least a little bit cropped.
I also went to Old Navy, were I got a few new shirts, one of which I'm wearing in my pictures today. I got the same shirt in plain black, too. I feel like it would look very Audry Hepburn if paired with my pants. I was very excited to find a pair of red ballet flats, which are much harder to find than I would have thought before, when I wasn't looking for them. I've been wanting a pair of those since I first saw the video for Emily and the Woods' song, Steal His Heart.
I hope you're all having a glitterific day!

Rompers, Tattoos, & Hipster Glasses

Outfit Details:
Romper- #forever21
Tights- Asos
Shoes- Shoe Buy
Glasses- #h&m
I really like this romper. I got it on sale for about $6 at Forever 21 a few days before Christmas, and it's really pretty. My friend, Isabelle, has a dress from ModCloth that's really similar to this, except that, you know, it's a dress, and it's blue all the way through, with a pattern of little trees or something all over. Other that that, it's a lot like my romper, so I think that's cool, because I always thought her dress was super cool.
It's always kind of weird when I wear these tights, because since you can't totally tell whether they're tattoos or nylons. People always end up starring more at my tights than my hair, so it's just strange because I'm so used to people looking at my hair, especially when it's some freaking bright pink.
At h&m the other day, I was getting a men's button-down (because I've been needing one, and they're so much better than girl ones), and I ended up getting a new pair of Buddy-Holly-type frames. If you've been reading my blog since the start, you might remember my old frames, which were like these. I really like my cat-eyes, but I keep having certain outfits that would just look way cooler with some square black frames. Hopefully, I'll get my prescription in these eventually, and I'll be able to wear them. They're men's frames, by the way, if you're looking for a pair of your own.
I hope you're all having a glitterific day!
Love,
Chloe

Style Inspiration: Lily (i.e. Christmas!!)

 Outfit Details:
Dress- #forever21
Stockings- Leg Avenue
Boots- Payless
Merry Christmas, to you all! I've been having quite a wondrous day, and I hope you've all had the same. I received a small stack of books, including "Dash & Lily's Book of Dares," which is, without a doubt, my absolute favorite book. I re-read it all today, and it was awesome. Every time I read it, I fall more in love with the story, the writing, and every single character.

So, the plot of the book: Lily's brother, in an attempt to get her out of the house so that he'd have some peace and quiet, gets her to leave a red moleskin journal next to her favorite book (Franny & Zooey) in The Strand (the bookstore in New York). Dash (a rather snarly boy) finds the notebook, and there's a note on the first page, reading "I've left some clues for you. If you want them, turn the page. If you don't, put the book back on the shelf, please." Following the note, Lily has left a series of instructions for whoever finds it, having them end up with a message. He leaves clues for her in response, and they end up leading each other off on all of these little mini-adventures all over New York at Christmas time, without meeting until close to the end of the book. Of course, throughout it, they're sort of falling in love, but it's nice because it's not in a sappy love-story kind of way. It's interesting, because you see the ways they expect each other to be, contrasting with their actual characters. Sorry, this may not be the best description, but it's a really good book.

Each character is so unique, and I want to be best friends with every one of them. I love Boomer, Dash's best friend, who is described as resembling a hyperactive and friendly chihuahua, but I also completely love "Mrs. Basil E." (Lily's Great-aunt Ida, nick-named for her resemblance to the character), who is just sounds really cool. Of course, I want to be best friends with Lily, with her great sense of style, almost constant optimism, love of books, and general weirdness. I (as I think just about anyone who's read the series does) am just a little bit in love with Dash, who is admittedly "bookish," pretty cynical, and wants nothing more than to spend his days wandering the Strand, and an Oxford English Dictionary (unabridged). Plus, come on, he can rock a fedora and a pea-coat. What's not to love?

The book has been lightly criticized for giving the 16 year old protagonists too developed of vocabularies, but I disagree. Just because they say things like "fanciful," "ramrod," and "teetotaler," rather than "yolo," "beast," etc. doesn't really make them unrealistic. If you read my book, we've put lots of Dash & Lily types of OED words that we always try to work into everyday conversations. Also, sort of a part of their characters is that they're kind of nerdy and (as previously mentioned) bookish. I guess Dash more than Lily, but she still has a good enough vocabulary that her passages are interesting to read.

Of course, my outfit had to be Lily-Inspired, as she has the most amazing outfits throughout the book. Her first real one is "[an] oxford uniform school shirt tucked into a knee-length lime-green felt material skirt with a reindeer embroidered on it, candy-cane-colored swirled stockings, and... our Great-aunt Ida's retired tasseled majorette boots, with taps still on the toes and heels... [and a] red knit hat with pom-poms dangling down from the ears" (page 42). I tried to at least get the essence of a Lily outfit, with garland wrapped around my boots (as she adds later to her majorette boots), striped stockings, and a green dress. My mom got my dad this awesome "taxidermized" deer head for Christmas, so I dressed him up in my old glasses and my bow-tie. Bow ties are cool. Did I mention there's been a Doctor Who Christmas marathon on all day? It's been beautiful. Plus: New episodes are back! As I write!
I hope you're all having beautifully glitterific and fanciful holidays!
Love (with all my magic),
Chloe
